![]() CULTURE August 2000; Volume 24 Issue 07 Amazon.com OKs book pushing man/boy sex
In Understanding Loved Boys and Boylovers, author David L. Riegel says men who sexually pursue young boys are not "monsters," but "sincere, concerned, loving human beings who simply have a sexual orientation that is neither understood nor accepted by most others." Riegel also says the "long assumed ‘harm' of such activities has failed to be supported by research." AFA Vice President Tim Wildmon has a different perspective on such men. "The truth of the matter is that they are child molesters, pure and simple. Anyone who uses children to gratify themselves sexually is a pervert and a sociopath," he said. "For Amazon.com to sell a book justifying such actions is not only irresponsible but repulsive. We're very disappointed with this company--again." Jeffrey Bezos, chairman and founder of Amazon.com, is no stranger to such controversies. The bookseller took heat last fall when consumers complained about its offering two books on bestiality--Dearest Pet: On Bestiality and The Horseman, Obsessions of a Zoophile--and a book about father/daughter incest, Daddy, An Erotic Memoir. Amazon.com was also forced by protests last year to pull Varieties of Man-Boy Love, another book extolling pedophilia. The bookseller had posted three positive reader reviews of Varieties on its website, one of which said the laws protecting children from sexual predators are outdated and that "boylove" should be affirmed in society.
