AFA launches movie
review site

AFA recently launched a new Web site that contains current movie reviews from a family perspective. On the Movie of the Month site (www.afa.net/motm), there are three categories of movies – those available in the AFA online store, those currently showing at theaters nationwide and those new releases now available on DVD.

The movies reviewed on this site are touted by their filmmakers and producers as either faith-based, family-friendly or both. The reviews provide potential audiences with an in-depth look at the films’ contents – both good and bad.

“The site is designed as a tool for people to use when making entertainment choices for themselves and their families,” said Rebecca Grace, movie critic for AFA. “This day and time, it’s nearly impossible to use movie ratings as an accurate guide for what’s in a film. I’ve trusted a movie’s rating and been burned one too many times, so it’s important to me to prevent this from happening to families and individuals who seek to honor the Lord with their entertainment choices.”

Grace, whose reviews appear on the Web site in both written and video form, has been following the impact of Christians in Hollywood for the past several years. While she won’t tell visitors to the site what to watch and what not to watch, she will encourage them to weigh the impact of the film’s contents on their lives and make a viewing decision based on personal convictions.

“We commend the entertainment industry for the efforts it is making to provide faith-based and family-friendly films to an audience who craves them, but that doesn’t take us off the hook when it comes to what we watch,” Grace said. “We still need to be selective and careful, and AFA’s new Movie of the Month site helps you do just that.”

The site allows visitors to click on a movie icon, see the trailer and watch Grace’s review of the film. If the movie meets the high standards of AFA and is a film the ministry deems worthy, it is available in AFA’s online store, which can be accessed through a link next to the movie icon.

Plus, visitors to the site can sign-up to become a member of the Movie of the Month Club. Members will receive a monthly e-mail detailing the movie of the month – a film that AFA will review, recommend, feature and make available for a suggested donation. However, members are under no obligation to purchase any movie.  The monthly e-mail – as well as the entire site – is simply an alert and an attempt on behalf of AFA to provide its supporters with quality films.

“You can trust AFA to help you and your family make wise entertainment choices by keeping you up-to-date on the latest family-friendly films,” said Don Wildmon, founder and chairman of AFA.
