According to Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation
League, some Christians should not have a place at the political
table. In a speech given in November, Mr. Foxman said: "Make no
mistake: we are facing an emerging Christian Right leadership that
intends to Christianize all aspects of American life,
from the halls of government to the libraries, to the movies, to
recording studios, to the playing fields and locker rooms of professional,
collegiate and amateur sports, from the military to SpongeBob SquarePants."
He is further upset because Christian conservatives have joined
together in a coalition called The Arlington Group to make their
voice more effective.
He urged his listeners, "Just take a look at their Web sites, where
they document in considerable detail an agenda on a wide range of
issues: judicial nominations, same-sex marriage, and faith-based
issues and an agenda that, let us be clear, goes well
beyond legitimate engagement in controversial social and political
issues to a fundamental usurpation of all that America represents
. "
Mr. Foxman says society must not tolerate an attempt to subvert
that right of belief and practice by those who say that their job
is to "reclaim America for Christ."
In short, what Mr. Foxman is saying is that Christian conservatives
should not be allowed to participate in the political process, express
dissatisfaction with the obscenity coming out of Hollywood and the
networks, oppose homosexual marriage, abortion, etc. He is very
upset that conservative Christians are working for the values they
believe in, are encouraging people to register and vote and urging
them to complain about the decline in morality.
I guess Mr. Foxman would be happy if we conservative Christians
would simply stay in our church buildings and keep out mouths shut.
People of faith whatever their faith have
found America to be the safest place in which to live in all of
history. America didnt achieve that result by the efforts
of those who are pushing abortion on demand, homosexual marriage,
pornography and a dumbed-down educational system.
Americas religious freedom came from those who knew that
freedom was given by God. And it should be made available to all
even to those with whom we do not agree.
We conservative Christians are willing to help preserve that freedom
for Mr. Foxman and his cohorts. We are even willing to die, if necessary,
to protect that freedom. Our only request is that we be allowed
to participate in the system, to have a place at the table along
with the other groups including the Anti-Defamation
League.
He went on to say, "As we watched the election of 2004, and we
are now getting glimpses into elections of 2006 and 2008, we are
beginning to see the candidates some declared, some not declared
beginning to move on these issues in a direction that
is not in our direction."
Because we are not moving in the direction he desires, he wants
to exclude us from the process. Mr. Foxman, democracy doesnt
work that way.
