BY MARVIN SANDERS | American Family Radio General Manager

A few years ago, before I even knew Don Wildmon, I was engaged in a spirited discussion with a fellow Christian on the damage being done to our country by forces hostile to our worldview. Mind you, we were in agreement on most points either of us made. Then he said, “Well, I’m not one of those Don Wildmon types of Christians, but … .” He then proceeded to agree with everything I thought I knew about Don Wildmon’s position on the issues under discussion.

I have come to know Don Wildmon well. If my friend knew the real Don Wildmon and not the one created by a hostile media, perhaps he would have been less inclined to distance himself from the “Man the Networks Love to Hate.”

My friend was reacting to the stereotype of Don Wildmon – semi-literate, redneck, backwoods preacher who is pushy, rude and wants to make everyone toe the line that he has deemed correct.
The real Don Wildmon is an intelligent, compassionate family man, motivated by a desire to make this a safe and secure place for our grandchildren.

When the real Don Wildmon stands up, he is worthy of respect because he cares more about us than about himself.

Come to think of it, maybe my friend was right. He was not one of those Don Wildmon types. Few are.
