By Randall Murphree | AFA Journal Editor

J. J. Jasper is the early morning on-air personality for American Family Radio at AFA, but that’s only a part of his diverse ministry as author, speaker and stand-up comic. His latest project is When I Grow Up, a children’s book based on the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23.

“My wife, Melanie, was asking me to pray about writing a children’s book five years ago,” he says. The Jaspers have four children – Lauren, Sadie, Maddie and Cooper. On the air and on the speaking circuit, J. J. urges parents to make the most of the time they have with their children while they’re very young.

“We love spending time with our little ones,” he says.” I had always heard how valuable reading to your children is. They’re little sponges, jumping up in our laps and saying, ‘Read me a book!’ I began to notice that the books we had to choose from were lacking in value lessons. You know the kind – ‘Muffy loses her mitten. She looks here and there.’ Maybe she finds it, maybe she doesn’t. Cute book, great illustrations. And that’s okay. But we have these little ones who are just soaking in every detail and I think we’re missing a great opportunity to say, ‘Love Jesus. Obey your parents.’”

A portion of each $10 sale of When I Grow Up (available at jjjasper.com) goes to Compassion International.
